Strong Support for Porcelain Artisans 24.06.2013

The exhibition and symposium on ‘Porcelain Artisan Sıtkı Olcar and His Contributions to Kütahya Porcelain Art’ were held in honour of Sıtkı Olcar at the Hilton Garden Inn Kütahya on 23 – 25 September 2010. This event, primarily sponsored by the Kosifler Group and with the support of KUSAV (The Association for the Preservation of Culture and Art), hosted important dignitaries from the world of art, academia, politics as well as business and the media. Those in attendance included the friends of Sıtkı Olcar, Kosifler Group Marketing Director Hilal Kosif, Semahat Arsel, the President of KUSAV Ciğdem Simavi, Vice Chairman of Koç Holding and the President of the Energy Group Ömer Koç and Sabancı Museum Director Nazan Ölçer. Having received much attention in Japan, Sıtkı Olcar presented a custom made porcelain horse figurine to his Japanese counterpart and close friend Yoshiyuki Matuso. The art work symbolizes ‘The Year of the Horse’ in Japan, as well as celebrates Matuso's birthday and wedding anniversary, which all coincide this year. At the opening ceremony, Matuso also presented a porcelain plate to Sıtkı decorated with a baby and peony. The creation of this piece was born from a special collaboration between Matuso and his mother-in-law.
